Suspect arrested as another case of child pornography comes to light in Punjab’s Muzaffargarh

Suspect Arrested in Muzaffargarh in Connection with Child Protection Case

Muzaffargarh, Punjab – Law enforcement authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with a serious child protection case in Sardarabad village, Muzaffargarh, officials confirmed on Friday.

This development comes in the wake of an earlier investigation that revealed a disturbing case of child exploitation allegedly linked to an illegal group misusing a so-called gaming space to target vulnerable minors. Authorities say that the arrested individual is believed to have been involved in the inappropriate filming and blackmail of children.

According to a police statement, the issue surfaced when one of the affected minors bravely contacted law enforcement, leading to swift action by local police. The case has been formally registered at the Saddar police station, with charges filed under sections pertaining to obscene content and misconduct under the Pakistan Penal Code.

The FIR details that a minor was allegedly approached and exploited while visiting a former employer of his older brother to collect pending wages. The accused was taken into custody, and authorities are now reaching out to other possible victims to support them in legal proceedings.

Stronger Laws, Persistent Challenges

Pakistan has taken legislative steps to combat child exploitation. Key laws, including the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2016 and the Zainab Alert, Response and Recovery Act, 2020, aim to provide a more robust legal framework for the protection of minors. These laws include harsher penalties for offenses such as exploitation, abuse, and distribution of inappropriate content, with sentences ranging from several years to life imprisonment.

Despite these laws, recent reports highlight the need for more preventive measures. A civil society report titled Cruel Numbers 2024 by Sahil documented over 3,300 cases of child-related abuse and exploitation nationwide, showing that on average, nine cases were reported per day. The report revealed that 53% of victims were girls and 47% boys, underlining the urgent need for increased awareness, education, and vigilance.

Call for Community Awareness and Action

Authorities continue to urge communities to report suspicious behavior and support child protection initiatives. Ensuring the safety and rights of children requires collective effort from families, schools, institutions, and law enforcement.

As investigations continue, the government reaffirms its commitment to protecting minors and holding offenders accountable, with several ongoing efforts to strengthen awareness and improve digital safety.

If you or someone you know is aware of any such incident, you are encouraged to contact your local police or child protection helpline. Your action can make a difference.
