RDA Launches Crackdown Against Illegal Construction in Rawalpindi

RDA Launches Special Monsoon Drive Against Illegal Constructions in Rawalpindi

In line with the directives of Director General Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Kinza Murtaza, the RDA Enforcement Squad has launched a special monsoon enforcement campaign aimed at protecting public safety across Rawalpindi.

The operation, initiated on Wednesday, is targeting illegal and hazardous constructions along natural drainage routes and encroachments near key water bodies. The goal is to reduce the risks of urban flooding and protect critical infrastructure during the ongoing monsoon season.

During the first phase of the operation, 10 notices were served to property owners involved in unauthorized building activities on Adyala Road, Dhamial Road, Dhamial-Kalyal Link Road, and surrounding areas. These constructions, officials said, obstruct the flow of stormwater and could increase the severity of flooding during heavy rainfall.

The enforcement teams also conducted detailed inspections at Jawa Dam and Misriot Dam, identifying vulnerable points that could contribute to flooding or contamination of water sources.

Director General Kinza Murtaza reaffirmed RDA’s commitment to public safety, stating that the authority will take strict action against unsafe and illegal constructions, particularly those affecting natural drainage systems. She emphasized that the campaign reflects the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who has issued zero-tolerance instructions regarding encroachments.

Assistant Director Building Control Shiza Tanweer, along with Building Surveyor Aamir Mahmood Malik and other RDA officials, led the operation, focusing on high-risk zones adjacent to nullahs and dams.

The RDA has appealed to citizens to cooperate with authorities and avoid construction on encroached land, especially in flood-prone areas. These enforcement actions are part of a larger strategy aimed at promoting sustainable urban planning and strengthening the city’s resilience against climate change-related challenges.
