Julio RodrÃguez Shines as Mariners Defeat White Sox 8-6 in Exciting Matchup
Seattle, August 7 – The Seattle Mariners delivered a powerful offensive display Wednesday night, fueled by a three-run home run from Julio RodrÃguez, to secure an 8-6 victory over the Chicago White Sox at home.
RodrÃguez made history earlier this week by becoming the first player in MLB history to record 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in each of his first four seasons. He continued his impressive form by blasting a three-run homer in the second inning off a hanging sweeper from White Sox starter Jonathan Cannon (4-9). The long ball came right after Cal Raleigh drove in two runs with a clutch single.
Early Lead and Strong Start from Kirby
The Mariners took early control of the game, building a 7-1 lead after just two innings. Josh Naylor helped ignite the offense with a two-run homer in the first inning.
On the mound, George Kirby (7-5) was solid over six innings, allowing just two runs and five hits while striking out nine batters. His performance helped Seattle maintain a strong lead through most of the game.
White Sox Rally Comes Up Short
The White Sox mounted a late rally in the seventh inning, scoring three runs off Mariners reliever Eduard Bazardo, thanks to back-to-back homers by Mike Tauchman and Lenyn Sosa. However, Seattle responded immediately in the bottom of the inning with Eugenio Suárez driving in RodrÃguez on a sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 8-5.
Muñoz Closes the Door
In a tense ninth inning, All-Star closer Andrés Muñoz allowed a solo homer to Michael A. Taylor, followed by back-to-back walks, briefly raising hopes for Chicago. But Muñoz quickly regained control, finishing the inning strong to earn his 26th save of the season and secure the win for Seattle.
Up Next
The Mariners continue their homestand as they look to build momentum heading into the weekend series. With RodrÃguez leading the charge and solid pitching depth, Seattle remains a strong contender in the playoff race.
