Punjab Food Authority Seal Famous Bakery in Lahore

Punjab Food Authority Seals Warehouse and Bakery Units, Imposes Rs. 2.7 Million Fines in Lahore

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed a warehouse, a jam production unit, and two sections of a prominent bakery during enforcement operations in Lahore’s Kahna and Multan Road areas. Four food business operators were fined a total of Rs. 2.7 million.

During the inspections led by PFA Director General M Asim Javaid, teams discovered and destroyed large quantities of expired and contaminated food items, including 44,000 litres of expired soybean oil, 30,000 kilograms of fungus-contaminated pickles and preserves, 400 kilograms of expired flavorings, and 3,385 kilograms of chemicals.

The bakery’s cake preparation section and cold storage were shut down due to the use of expired ingredients and poor hygiene standards.

According to the PFA chief, one facility was found producing pickles and jam from spoiled fruits and vegetables, while another was distributing expired and low-quality products repackaged in attractive packaging. The actions followed violations of food safety regulations, foul odors, and unsanitary conditions observed during inspections.

The Director General warned that consuming unsafe food ingredients can cause serious stomach and intestinal illnesses. He assured the public that the PFA will continue both scheduled and surprise inspections across Punjab to safeguard public health.

Citizens are encouraged to report any cases of food adulteration by calling the PFA helpline at 1223.
