Diesel Prices to Drop by Rs. 11.50, Petrol Price Set to Increase

Fuel Price Update: Big Drop Expected in Diesel Rates, Slight Petrol Increase from August 16

In a major relief for transporters and industries, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) is expected to fall by around Rs. 11.50 per litre for the upcoming fortnight starting August 16, 2025. However, petrol prices may see a marginal rise of Rs. 1.40 per litre.

The anticipated adjustment comes as a result of global oil market trends and a slight improvement in the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar.

📉 Diesel Prices Set to Decline
Based on current tax rates, the ex-depot price of HSD is projected to drop by nearly 4%. This decline is largely due to a $4.5 per barrel fall in international diesel prices over the past two weeks, combined with a stronger rupee.

📈 Petrol Prices Likely to Edge Up
Petrol prices are expected to rise by just 0.5%, as international petrol rates inched up by 15 cents per barrel during the same period. Currently, petrol is priced at Rs. 264.61 per litre, following a Rs. 7.54 per litre cut on August 1 after earlier increases totaling Rs. 20 per litre since May 15.

🚗 Impact on Consumers
Petrol is widely used in motorcycles, cars, rickshaws, and small vehicles, making any price change significant for middle- and lower-income households.

🚛 Diesel’s Role in the Economy
HSD, now at Rs. 285.83 per litre, is the main fuel for trucks, buses, and heavy machinery. The expected drop in diesel prices could help reduce transportation and freight costs, benefiting both businesses and consumers.

🛢 Other Fuels to Get Cheaper
Kerosene and light diesel oil (LDO) prices are also expected to fall by Rs. 6 and Rs. 7 per litre, respectively.

The final fuel price announcement will be made after last-minute government calculations and will take effect from midnight on August 16.
