Pakistan Railways Issues New Safety Directives for All Trains

Pakistan Railways Issues Strict New Safety Orders After Recent Train Accidents

Islamabad: In the wake of multiple train accidents reported over the past few months, Pakistan Railways has introduced strict new safety rules to ensure passenger protection and improve operational standards.

Brake Power Rules Made Mandatory

According to an official circular issued by Chief Operating Superintendent Syeda Maryam Gilani, all passenger and freight trains must strictly follow the updated “Railway Work to Rules – Brake Powers.” The directive has been sent to divisional superintendents and the technical branch for immediate implementation.

Key Safety Measures Announced

The circular outlines four major safety steps, with special focus on braking systems:

  • No train will be declared fit unless its braking system is 100% functional.

  • All coaches, wagons, and engines must have updated braking material.

  • Technical and engineering teams will formally verify brake power before clearance.

  • Any vehicle failing to meet these requirements will be detached instantly.

Passenger Safety is Top Priority

Gilani emphasized that the new policy aims to protect passengers’ lives, improve punctuality, and reduce accident risks. She added that strict compliance with brake power rules would significantly improve the reliability of Pakistan Railways.

Immediate Enforcement Ordered

The new safety instructions have been enforced across all divisions with immediate effect, making it clear that passenger safety will not be compromised under any circumstances.
