Harry Kane Hat-Trick Powers Bayern Munich to 6-0 Thrashing of RB Leipzig in Bundesliga Opener
Bayern Munich kicked off their Bundesliga title defence in spectacular fashion, thrashing RB Leipzig 6-0 at home on Friday. Harry Kane netted a second-half hat-trick, Michael Olise struck twice, and newcomer Luis Diaz also got on the scoresheet in a dominant display.
Bayern’s Premier League signings stole the show. Olise opened the scoring in the 27th minute and added another just before halftime, with Diaz hammering in Bayern’s second in between. The Bavarians went into the break 3-0 up, leaving Leipzig reeling.
In the second half, Kane took centre stage. The England captain scored Bayern’s fourth from a Diaz assist, before striking again in the 74th and 78th minutes to complete his seventh Bundesliga hat-trick since joining from Tottenham in 2023. The 32-year-old was substituted late on to a standing ovation from the home crowd.
The result sends an early warning to Bayern’s rivals. Winners of 12 of the past 13 Bundesliga titles, the defending champions showed their firepower despite losing several attacking players in the summer. Diaz, signed from Liverpool, became Bayern’s third consecutive big-money arrival from England after Kane and Olise.
Leipzig, meanwhile, struggled in their first Bundesliga match since Jurgen Klopp took over as Red Bull’s global head of football. A disallowed goal by Antonio Nusa added to their misery on a night where Bayern’s dominance was absolute.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, last season’s runners-up Bayer Leverkusen host Hoffenheim on Saturday, while Borussia Dortmund travel to St. Pauli.
