Electric Polo Claims Medium Goal Gold Cup at 54th International Polo Tournament
The medium goal Gold Cup of the 54th International Polo Tournament at Ayala Polo Club in Sotogrande concluded with an exciting final on Friday, August 29. Electric Polo edged out Muda IZ Polo 10-5 to secure their first Gold Cup in Sotogrande.
Both teams had strong performances leading up to the final. Muda IZ Polo previously won the Bronze Cup, while Electric Polo was runner-up in the Silver Cup. The lineups had clashed three times during the tournament, with Sarah Braune’s Electric Polo winning twice and Ahmad Firhan’s Muda IZ once, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown.
After a scoreless first chukka, Electric Polo took control and maintained the lead, despite a strong comeback from Muda IZ in the fifth chukka. The final score read Electric Polo 10 – Muda IZ 5, with standout performances from Félix Esaín, Pedro Chavanne, and Tomás Delfino for Electric Polo.
Facundo Sola of Muda IZ Polo was named MVP, and he also finished as the tournament’s top scorer with 39 goals. Best Playing Pony awards went to Mensajera, ridden by Félix Esaín, and Ve Ocho Valdez, ridden by Pedro Chavanne.
The tournament highlighted top-level competition and remarkable skill, marking another memorable chapter in Sotogrande’s prestigious polo tradition.
