Cricket Fans in Peshawar Gear Up as PSL Prepares for Imran Khan Stadium
Peshawar, August 30, 2025 – Hopes for the return of top-tier cricket to Peshawar have surged, as Pakistan Super League (PSL) CEO Salman Naseer shared an encouraging update on the Imran Khan Stadium’s renovation and readiness to host matches.
The historic venue has been undergoing extensive upgrades for several years but has yet to host a match for the Peshawar Zalmi franchise. While franchise owner Javed Afridi has long pushed for cricket’s return, the PSL had previously hesitated to schedule games in the city—until now.
Salman Naseer expressed optimism about bringing the league to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa soon. “We have suggested further modifications to the Peshawar stadium, and we intend to make it an international venue in the future so that PSL matches can also be held here,” he said.
Earlier this week, the stadium hosted an exhibition match between Peshawar Zalmi and a Legends XI to raise funds for flood-affected areas of Pakistan. This was the first live action at the venue in years, allowing officials to assess areas for improvement and finalize renovations to meet international standards.
Successfully hosting PSL games would not only be a major boost for Peshawar Zalmi, but it would also enhance cricket across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding a new and exciting venue to the PSL map.
With stadium upgrades progressing and strong backing from PSL management, fans in Peshawar may soon witness their favorite T20 stars back in action at Imran Khan Stadium.
