Five Dead After Rescue Boat Overturns in Multan’s Jalalpur Pirwala

A tragic accident occurred on Saturday in Multan’s Jalalpur Pirwala area, where a Rescue-1122 boat capsized in the Chenab River during flood evacuation efforts. The incident claimed the lives of five people.

Cause of the Incident

According to officials, the swollen river currents and low visibility at night contributed to the accident. The rescue boat reportedly struck a submerged tree before overturning.

Immediate Response

Senior local authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner and City Police Officer, arrived at the scene to supervise rescue operations and provide support. Provincial disaster management officials have urged strict adherence to safe evacuation protocols and cautioned against overloading rescue or private boats in flood-hit regions.

Official Condolences

The Chief Minister of Punjab and senior Rescue-1122 leadership expressed their condolences to the victims’ families. The divisional emergency officer also visited the site to honor those who lost their lives.

Ongoing Rescue Operations

Despite the tragedy, Rescue-1122 teams have evacuated more than 9,000 people in the Multan region so far. Across Punjab, over 350,000 residents and 300,000 livestock have been relocated from flood-affected zones as relief efforts continue.

Authorities have stressed that public cooperation and safety precautions remain essential in ensuring lives are protected during ongoing floods.
