Karachi transport strike extended after talks with government fail

KARACHI: Public transport operators in Karachi have decided to continue their strike after negotiations with the Sindh government failed to resolve issues related to the electronic traffic challan system.

The decision was announced by the Karachi Transport Alliance following unsuccessful talks with provincial authorities. As a result, buses, minibuses, and coaches remained off the roads on Thursday, causing significant disruption for commuters across the city.

Many residents faced difficulties reaching workplaces and industrial areas due to the suspension of public transport services.

According to transport representatives, discussions with the government did not lead to any agreement, prompting them to extend the strike into Friday.

The transporters have raised concerns over the e-challan system, stating that fines are excessively high and, in some cases, financially unsustainable for drivers and operators.

The alliance has said that services will remain suspended until their concerns are addressed by the authorities.
