Has State Bank Removed the Rizq e Halal Watermark From New Currency Notes?

Fact Check: Claim About Removal of “Husool-e-Rizq-e-Halal” From Pakistani Currency Notes Is False

A wave of social media posts has recently claimed that Pakistani banknotes no longer feature the iconic inscription:

“Husool-e-Rizq-e-Halal Aeen Ibadat Hai”
(Translation: Earning a lawful livelihood is an act of worship.)

These claims sparked criticism online, with many users alleging that the removal blurred the distinction between halal (lawful) and haram (unlawful) earnings.

Social Media Buzz

One viral Facebook post alleged that newly issued currency notes had dropped the inscription that was visible on older notes. Similar posts quickly spread across X (Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, fueling confusion and outrage.

The Truth

These claims are completely false.

An official of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) confirmed that the inscription remains intact on all Pakistani currency notes from Rs. 10 to Rs. 5,000 denominations.

The SBP’s official website even lists the phrase as part of the security features printed on the back of every note. Independent reviews have also verified that the words have not been removed.

Official Word

Speaking to Geo News, a central bank official emphasized:

“The inscription Husool-e-Rizq-e-Halal Ibadat Hai is still present on all currency notes, and it remains one of the security elements of Pakistan’s currency design.”

Bottom Line

The viral claims about the removal of the halal livelihood inscription are misinformation. The phrase continues to be printed on all banknotes, maintaining its historic and cultural significance.
