September 18, 2025: Belgium secured first place in Pool F at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship with a dominant 3-0 victory over winless Algeria. The European side remains undefeated and will next face the Pool C runners-up, to be decided among Finland, France, and Argentina later Thursday.

After an early four-point lead by Algeria in the first set, Belgium quickly took control, winning 25-22, 25-20, 25-12. Sub-in outside Simon Plaskie sealed the match with a perfect diagonal hit from zone four.

Despite committing more unforced errors than Algeria (19 to 16), Belgium excelled in key areas, including kill blocks (10-1), serving aces (5-1), and spike kills (44-33). Captain and outside hitter Sam Deroo and opposite Ferre Reggers each scored 15 points at a 75% success rate, with Reggers topping the match with 19 points, including two aces and two kill blocks. Algeria’s top scorer was sub-in outside Tizit Farouk, with 11 points.

Belgian middle blocker Wout D’heer said, “Winning the group is a great surprise. Our victory over Italy was decisive, and we’re ready to recover and prepare for the next round. We’ll be watching the France vs. Argentina match closely to study our next opponent.”

Later Thursday, Ukraine and defending champions Italy will battle for the second Pool F eighthfinal spot at 21:30 local time (13:30 UTC).
