According to a proposal submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Agency to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority, a Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for March 2026 has been suggested, reflecting changes in generation costs.

Key Reason for Change

The expected relief is mainly linked to a shift in electricity production sources. Hydropower generation increased significantly during the period, while reliance on more expensive liquefied natural gas (LNG)-based power generation declined sharply.

Hydropower became one of the largest contributors to the national energy mix, helping reduce overall generation costs.

Energy Mix Overview

Electricity was also generated from multiple sources, including coal, gas, nuclear, and other fuels. Among these, hydropower and nuclear remained relatively lower-cost options compared to imported fuel-based generation.

Regulatory Process

The proposed adjustment will be reviewed by the regulator in a public hearing scheduled later this month. The final decision will determine the actual impact on consumer electricity bills.

Overall, the adjustment is expected to provide some relief to consumers compared to the previous month’s higher fuel charges.
