Peshawar Zalmi Beat Karachi Kings as Mendis and Farhan Shine in PSL 11
In an impressive all-round performance, Peshawar Zalmi secured a convincing victory over Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, thanks to strong batting displays and an excellent bowling effort.
Chasing a target of 183, Zalmi comfortably reached the total in 18.5 overs with three wickets in hand. Kusal Mendis led the charge with an unbeaten 80, while Farhan Yousaf contributed a valuable half-century to guide the team home.
Strong Chase Anchored by Mendis and Farhan
Zalmi got off to a steady start as James Vince and captain Babar Azam built a solid opening partnership. However, Hasan Ali broke through by dismissing Vince early.
Shortly after, Abbas Afridi removed Babar Azam, leaving Zalmi at 45-2 inside the powerplay.
Mendis then steadied the innings with a composed knock, bringing up his fourth half-century of the tournament. Despite a brief setback with the dismissal of Aaron Hardie, Zalmi remained in control.
Farhan Yousaf joined Mendis at a crucial stage, and the pair built a strong partnership to shift momentum firmly in Zalmi’s favor. Farhan accelerated in the latter stages, playing key shots to ensure a smooth finish. He sealed the win with a boundary, completing his maiden PSL fifty.
Karachi Kings Post Competitive Total
Earlier, Karachi Kings posted 182-9 in their 20 overs, with notable contributions from Jason Roy and Azam Khan.
Openers David Warner and Roy provided a steady start before Ali Raza struck to break the partnership.
Roy continued his strong form, scoring an impressive 85 and anchoring the innings. He received support from Reeza Hendricks, while Azam Khan added quick runs in the later overs with an aggressive approach.
Ali Raza’s Standout Bowling Performance
Ali Raza was the standout performer with the ball for Zalmi, delivering a match-winning spell. He picked up four wickets, including crucial breakthroughs in the final over to restrict Karachi from setting a bigger total.
His disciplined bowling effort played a key role in limiting Karachi Kings and setting up the successful chase for Peshawar Zalmi.
