Karachi Underpass Project at Malir Halt Gets Green Signal
A major infrastructure hurdle has been cleared in Karachi after Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi directed the issuance of a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the construction of an underpass at Malir Halt.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting attended by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, and Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah.
Long-Delayed Project Moves Forward
The underpass at Malir Halt had faced delays due to pending approval from Pakistan Railways.
With the NOC now approved, authorities expect the project to move forward, helping ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the area.
Focus on Public Transport Improvements
During the meeting, officials also discussed broader plans to enhance Karachi’s public transport system.
Key proposals included:
- Restoration of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR)
- Revival of suburban train services
- Launch of new train routes between Karachi–Rohri and Karachi–Jacobabad
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized the need for an efficient and affordable transport system to meet the city’s growing demands.
Commitment to Railway Modernization
Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi said that coordinated efforts between federal and provincial authorities would be made to modernize the railway system and improve service reliability.
Officials believe that infrastructure projects like the Malir Halt underpass will play an important role in reducing traffic pressure and supporting urban mobility.
