Abdul Raheem Sherazi Appointed as Lahore Chief Traffic Officer
LAHORE: The Punjab government has appointed Grade-19 police officer Abdul Raheem Sherazi as the new Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore, assigning him responsibility for managing traffic operations in the city.
An official notification has been issued confirming his appointment. Sherazi previously served as District Police Officer (DPO) in Mandi Bahauddin.
The posting comes at a time when traffic regulations and penalties in Punjab are undergoing changes following recent legislative approvals in the provincial assembly.
New Traffic Fines Approved
The Punjab Assembly recently passed amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act, revising fines for several traffic violations.
Under the updated rules:
- Fines for certain motorcycle offences have been reduced from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 1,000.
- For rickshaws, penalties for minor violations are now set at Rs. 1,000, while major violations carry a Rs. 2,000 fine.
- For cars and jeeps, fines for specific offences have been reduced from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 2,000.
However, penalties for over-speeding remain unchanged under the new regulations.
Focus on Traffic Management
The new CTO is expected to focus on improving traffic flow, enforcement, and public compliance with updated road safety laws across Lahore.
Authorities say the changes are part of broader efforts to improve urban traffic management and ensure smoother movement across the provincial capital.
