Three Killed in Fresh Clashes in India’s Manipur State
At least three people have been killed in fresh gunfire incidents in India’s northeastern state of Manipur, according to local police, as tensions continue in the conflict-hit region.
Authorities said the incident involved an exchange of fire between groups in the Ukhrul district. The identities and community affiliation of the victims have not been confirmed.
Security forces have increased presence in the area and operations are ongoing to prevent further escalation, police added.
Manipur has experienced intermittent ethnic violence over the past several years, primarily involving tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities. Disputes are often linked to issues related to land rights, political representation, and public resources.
According to official figures, more than 250 people have been killed in clashes since unrest intensified in 2023, which also displaced tens of thousands of residents.
While the situation had shown signs of relative calm in recent months, isolated incidents of violence have continued to occur, raising concerns about long-term stability in the region.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as investigations into the latest incident are underway.
