Red Sox Pitcher Ranger Suárez Exits Victory Over Angels with Groin Injury

Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail

Boston Red Sox left-handed pitcher Ranger Suárez left Sunday’s 7-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels after experiencing discomfort in his left groin during the third inning.

The injury occurred shortly after Suárez was selected to the 2026 American League All-Star Team, raising questions about his availability for the upcoming All-Star Game.

Injury Occurs During Third Inning

Suárez said he felt tightness in his left adductor (groin area) while pitching to Angels batter Jo Adell.

The discomfort appeared to worsen after Suárez jumped in an attempt to field a slow ground ball that resulted in an infield single.

Following a visit from the coaching staff and the team’s athletic trainer, Suárez threw one warm-up pitch before deciding he could not continue and walked off the field.

Suárez Describes the Injury

Speaking after the game through an interpreter, Suárez explained that he experienced a sharp pain in the groin area while throwing.

He attempted another warm-up pitch but continued to feel discomfort, leading to the decision to leave the game as a precaution.

Suárez also said he could not recall previously dealing with a similar injury.

All-Star Status to Be Evaluated

The 2026 American League All-Star was named to the squad one day before the injury occurred.

His availability for the MLB All-Star Game, scheduled for July 14 in Philadelphia, will likely depend on the results of further medical evaluation and his recovery over the coming days.

Strong Season Continues

Suárez joined the Boston Red Sox before the 2026 season after signing a long-term free-agent contract.

He has played an important role in Boston’s pitching rotation and earned All-Star recognition through his consistent performances during the first half of the season.

The Red Sox are expected to provide additional updates on his condition after further examination.

For now, the club will monitor his recovery while hoping the injury proves to be minor ahead of the All-Star break.
