KP Launches Province-Wide Crackdown on Professional Begging
Peshawar, July 6, 2026: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a province-wide campaign against professional beggars, aiming to address organized begging networks across major cities and districts.
According to an official statement, authorities have already begun identifying and profiling individuals involved in organized begging as part of the initial phase of the operation.
Action Planned in Major Cities
The campaign will focus on public areas including:
- Road intersections and traffic signals
- Markets and shopping centers
- Mosques and commercial hubs
- Other busy public locations
Operations are expected to be carried out in Peshawar and other districts across the province.
Government’s Stance on Organized Begging
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Social Welfare, Zakat & Ushr, Special Education, and Women Empowerment, Malik Liaqat Ali Khan, said professional begging has become a growing social issue.
He stated that organized begging networks not only create inconvenience for citizens but also affect the distribution of aid meant for genuinely deserving individuals.
Strict Action Against Child Exploitation
The government has also warned against the use of children in begging activities, calling it a punishable offense. Officials said strict legal action will be taken against those found exploiting minors.
Relevant departments, including the Social Welfare Department, police, and district administrations, will jointly conduct the operation.
Rehabilitation and Support Measures
Authorities emphasized that while the crackdown targets organized begging networks, efforts will also be made to support and rehabilitate vulnerable and deserving individuals.
Public Advisory
The KP government has urged citizens not to encourage professional begging and to report cases involving child begging or organized groups to the relevant authorities for timely action.
