Sindh Transfers Management of Government Dispensaries to PPHI

Karachi, July 6, 2026: The Sindh government has completed the transfer of the management of its remaining primary healthcare facilities to the People’s Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI) Sindh, marking a significant change in the province’s public healthcare system.

The move completes a transition process that has been underway for nearly two decades.

PPHI to Manage Primary Healthcare Facilities

Under the new arrangement, PPHI Sindh, a government-funded not-for-profit organization, will oversee the day-to-day management and operations of government dispensaries and other primary healthcare centers across the province.

PPHI has been providing healthcare services in rural and underserved areas of Sindh since 2007.

Major Change in Healthcare Administration

According to official details, the transfer places operational and administrative responsibilities for primary healthcare facilities under PPHI.

The Sindh Health Department has informed District Health Officers (DHOs) about the new administrative structure.

Following the transition, DHOs will primarily focus on public health programs such as:

  • Polio vaccination campaigns
  • Routine immunization activities
  • Other preventive healthcare initiatives

PPHI’s Existing Network

PPHI Sindh currently manages more than 1,350 healthcare facilities across 26 districts of the province.

According to the organization, these facilities provide a range of essential healthcare services, including:

  • Outpatient medical consultations
  • Laboratory testing
  • Maternal and child healthcare
  • Family planning services
  • Primary healthcare for rural communities

Expanded Maternal Healthcare Services

PPHI also stated that more than 300 Basic Health Units (BHUs) have been upgraded into 24-hour maternity centers to improve access to maternal and emergency healthcare, particularly in remote and underserved areas.

The latest transition is expected to further strengthen the delivery of primary healthcare services while improving access to essential medical facilities for communities across Sindh.
