Sindh Sets June 2027 Deadline for Completion of Rs. 140.9 Billion Highway Projects

The Sindh government and the National Assembly Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Special Initiatives have set June 2027 as the target date for completing five major federal highway projects in Sindh with a combined estimated cost of Rs. 140.91 billion.

The decision was made during a review meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, where officials assessed the progress of several key road infrastructure projects across the province.

Major Highway Projects Under Review

The meeting reviewed work on the following projects:

  • Sindh Coastal Highway Extension
  • Mehran Highway
  • Rohri–Guddu Road
  • Tando Allahyar–Tando Adam Dual Carriageway
  • Sanghar–Rohri Road

These projects are being developed under the federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) in collaboration with the Sindh government.

Project Funding

Officials informed the meeting that the total estimated cost of the five projects is Rs. 140.91 billion.

According to the briefing:

  • The federal government is contributing Rs. 96.75 billion.
  • The Sindh government is providing Rs. 44.15 billion.

Participants emphasized the importance of timely federal funding to ensure construction continues according to schedule.

Progress on Key Projects

Officials shared updates on several ongoing schemes:

  • Construction of the 36-kilometre Sindh Coastal Highway Extension, valued at Rs. 37.7 billion, began after the work order was issued in June 2026.
  • Work is progressing on the 150-kilometre Mehran Highway, estimated at Rs. 17.79 billion, with asphalt base work completed on approximately 44 kilometres.
  • The 31.4-kilometre Tando Allahyar–Tando Adam Dual Carriageway, costing Rs. 9.28 billion, is also under construction.

The meeting was informed that utility relocation, transmission line shifting, and pending approvals from Pakistan Railways remain among the key challenges affecting project timelines.

Additional Infrastructure Updates

Construction is also continuing on the 135-kilometre Nawabshah–Ranipur dualization project, with an estimated cost of Rs. 41.03 billion.
