England and India Set for Historic First Women’s Test at Lord’s
A landmark moment in women’s cricket is set to unfold as England and India prepare to play the first-ever women’s Test match at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
The four-day contest begins on Friday and marks a significant milestone for the sport, with Lord’s hosting a women’s Test for the first time in its long history, more than a century after the venue staged its first men’s Test.

India head coach Amol Muzumdar described the occasion as a memorable moment for both teams, saying the opportunity to play a Test at Lord’s is special and one the players are eager to experience.
Although Lord’s hosted its first women’s international match in 1976, it has never previously staged a women’s Test. That historic One-Day International saw England defeat Australia and represented an important step forward for women’s cricket.
Over the decades, the women’s game has grown significantly, with improved facilities, greater professional opportunities, and increasing global support.

Former England captain Rachael Heyhoe Flint, one of the pioneers of women’s cricket, played a key role in advancing the sport during its early years. Today, her legacy is honored at Lord’s, reflecting the progress women’s cricket has made over the past several decades.
England head coach Charlotte Edwards said the team has been preparing for the Test alongside its recent white-ball campaign and believes the match represents an important chapter in the continued development of women’s cricket.

Tammy Beaumont to End International Career
The Test will also mark the final international appearance of experienced England batter Tammy Beaumont, who has represented her country for 17 years.
During her international career, Beaumont played 260 matches for England and became the first English woman to score a double century in Test cricket with her remarkable innings of 208 runs against Australia in 2023.
The 35-year-old said ending her international career at Lord’s during such a historic match makes the occasion even more meaningful. While stepping away from international cricket, she plans to continue playing domestic cricket.
