Red Sox Infielder Curtis Mead Sidelined with Left Wrist Injury After Team Debut

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.: Boston Red Sox infielder Curtis Mead is expected to miss time after suffering a left wrist injury during his first game with the club.

Mead, who joined the Red Sox in a recent trade, was injured during Monday’s game against the Athletics when he was struck on the left wrist by a pitch.

Injury Confirmed After Further Evaluation

Initial X-rays did not reveal a fracture, providing early optimism. However, additional medical evaluations conducted the following day confirmed a wrist injury that will keep Mead out of the lineup for an undisclosed period.

Speaking before Tuesday’s game, Mead expressed disappointment over the setback.

“It’s disappointing, especially in my first game with the team,” he said, adding that his focus is now on recovery and returning to action.

Strong Season Before Joining Boston

Before the injury, Mead had been enjoying a productive season at the plate.

The infielder is batting .253 with 17 home runs and 48 RBIs, providing consistent offensive production throughout the campaign.

Boston acquired Mead on Saturday in a trade that sent left-handed pitcher Connelly Early to Washington.

Red Sox Make Roster Move

To fill the vacant roster spot, the Red Sox recalled infielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester.

The club has not announced a timeline for Mead’s return, and his recovery will depend on further medical assessment and rehabilitation.
