Pakistan Navy Submarine HANGOR Conducts First Live Missile Firing
PNS/M HANGOR successfully engages long-range target in North Arabian Sea, ISPR says
RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Navy’s newly inducted submarine PNS/M HANGOR has conducted its first live weapon firing, successfully hitting a designated long-range target in the North Arabian Sea, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.
According to the military’s media wing, the submarine used an anti-ship cruise missile during the exercise and accurately engaged its assigned target.
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf witnessed the missile firing and praised the submarine’s operational and combat capabilities, ISPR said.
The Navy chief also highlighted the importance of strengthening Pakistan’s underwater defence capabilities to maintain maritime security and deterrence.
ISPR said the successful firing demonstrated the Pakistan Navy’s focus on maintaining a modern and operationally prepared force to protect the country’s maritime interests.
Navy Ships Seize Narcotics
In a separate operation, Pakistan Navy ships HUNAIN and YARMOOK intercepted a suspicious boat in the Arabian Sea and recovered more than 2,800 kilogrammes of narcotics, according to ISPR.
The military said the estimated value of the seized drugs was around $750 million.
The ships were conducting a routine patrol when they detected and intercepted the boat. A subsequent boarding operation led to the recovery of narcotics from concealed compartments, ISPR said.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf praised the officers and crew involved in the operation for their vigilance and professionalism.
President, PM Praise Navy
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the Pakistan Navy on HANGOR’s first successful live weapon firing.
The President praised the Navy’s operational readiness and its efforts to strengthen the country’s maritime defence capabilities.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the successful engagement of a long-range target with an anti-ship cruise missile demonstrated the Navy’s preparedness and operational capabilities.
