New Zealand sprinter Zoe Hobbs delivered a remarkable performance to win the women’s 100-meter final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, setting a new Oceania record despite wet conditions.
Competing at Scotstoun Stadium, Hobbs crossed the finish line in 10.93 seconds, becoming the first New Zealand athlete to win Commonwealth Games gold in the women’s 100m event. Her record-breaking run also established a new Oceania benchmark.
Speaking after the race, Hobbs described the achievement as an unforgettable moment, saying she needed to see the result on the scoreboard before it truly felt real. She added that simply qualifying for the Commonwealth Games had already been a major accomplishment, making the gold medal even more special.
England’s Amy Hunt secured the silver medal with a time of 10.98 seconds, while Australia’s Torrie Lewis claimed bronze in 10.99 seconds, setting a new Australian national record.
Hunt reflected on her performance by saying the 100m is an event where perfection is essential. Although she had mixed emotions about the result, she expressed pride in joining the list of medal winners in one of athletics’ most prestigious sprint events.
The women’s 100m final proved to be one of the standout races of the championships, with three athletes delivering exceptional performances despite challenging weather conditions.
