Connor Esterhuizen Scores Maiden ODI Century as South Africa Beat Namibia

South Africa secured the three-match ODI series against Namibia with a commanding 157-run victory in Windhoek on Friday, with young opener Connor Esterhuizen playing a starring role by scoring his maiden international century.
The 24-year-old right-hander produced an impressive 119 from 110 balls, helping South Africa post a formidable 335-9 in their 50 overs. The victory gave South Africa an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series with one match still to play.
Esterhuizen Responds in Style
Esterhuizen made a remarkable comeback after a disappointing outing in the opening ODI.
In Wednesday’s rain-affected first match, he was dismissed for just 10 runs as South Africa went on to win by 99 runs.
This time, however, the Johannesburg-born batter dominated Namibia’s bowling attack. After Jordan Hermann was dismissed for 20, Esterhuizen joined Tony de Zorzi at the crease and the pair built a crucial 183-run partnership for the second wicket.
Esterhuizen struck eight fours and six sixes during his innings before his knock ended in the 36th over. He attempted a shot against Ruben Trumpelmann but mistimed it, allowing Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus to complete the catch at mid-off.
De Zorzi also made a valuable contribution, scoring 79 runs from 88 balls with six fours and a six.
Namibia Struggle in the Chase
Chasing 336 for victory, Namibia’s innings got off to a disastrous start.
The hosts quickly lost Michael van Lingen, Malan Kruger and Jan Frylinck without scoring, while wickets continued to fall as Namibia were reduced to 32-5.
Captain Gerhard Erasmus attempted to revive the innings with Jan Bait. The pair added 71 runs for the seventh wicket, providing some resistance against the South African bowling attack.
Erasmus top-scored for Namibia with 68, including six fours and a six, before substitute fielder Rubin Hermann took a low diving catch at cover to end his innings.
Namibia were eventually bowled out for 178 in 41.5 overs.
South Africa’s Duan Jansen was the standout bowler, finishing with 4-31, while Ruben Trumpelmann contributed 30 runs with the bat.
South Africa Take Series Lead
The result means South Africa have already secured the three-match series 2-0. The final ODI will be played in Windhoek on Sunday.
The South African team will then turn its attention to a three-match ODI series against Australia, scheduled to begin on September 24.
