Hina Dilpazeer Was Originally Planned for One Episode of Bulbulay, Ayesha Omar Reveals

Hina Dilpazeer’s character Momo has become one of the most recognizable figures in Pakistani television, but the character was never initially intended to be a permanent part of Bulbulay.

Ayesha Omar, one of the sitcom’s leading actors, recently revealed that Dilpazeer was originally brought in as a guest performer for just one episode.

Bulbulay Was Originally Planned as a 26-Episode Show

Speaking on Good Morning Pakistan, Ayesha Omar explained that Bulbulay looked very different when it first premiered in 2009.

According to the actor, the original central cast featured Nabeel Zafar as Nabeel, Ayesha Omar as Khoobsurat and Mehmood Aslam as Mehmood Sahab.

The sitcom was initially planned to run for only 26 episodes, with the story focusing on these three characters.

Hina Dilpazeer Joined as a Guest Star

Omar revealed that Hina Dilpazeer was invited to appear in one episode as Nabeel’s mother.

Her portrayal of the loud, eccentric and memorable Momo was reportedly well received by viewers, and the episode attracted strong ratings.

Following the response, the show’s creators decided to turn Momo into a recurring character instead of keeping Dilpazeer as a one-time guest.

Momo’s Arrival Changed the Story

According to Ayesha Omar, Dilpazeer’s addition also significantly changed the relationships between the main characters.

The original storyline featured Nabeel, Khoobsurat and Mehmood Sahab living together in an apartment without marriage being part of the initial setup.

After Momo became part of the show, the storyline evolved, with Nabeel and Khoobsurat getting married. Momo also became connected to Mehmood Sahab through marriage, turning the characters into a larger family unit.

Omar described this development as an important turning point for the sitcom.

Ayesha Omar Initially Had Reservations

The actor also shared that she had initially been unsure about taking Bulbulay on as a long-term project because her mother had concerns about the role.

However, Omar decided to continue with the sitcom after Hina Dilpazeer joined the cast.

The show subsequently developed a strong following and continued far beyond its original 26-episode plan.

How Momo Became a Fan-Favourite Character

Hina Dilpazeer’s Momo eventually became one of the defining characters of Bulbulay, while the sitcom grew into a long-running Pakistani television comedy.

Now in its 17th year, the show’s journey highlights how the addition of a character originally planned for just one episode ended up playing a major role in shaping its later storyline and family dynamic.
