Australia Defeat England to Win Record Seventh ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Title

Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail

Australia produced another dominant performance on Sunday, defeating England by seven wickets in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final at Lord’s to claim a record-extending seventh tournament title.

Chasing a target of 151, Australia reached the total with 17 balls remaining, thanks to an outstanding partnership between Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield that put the team in complete control of the run chase.

The victory marked another successful chapter for Australia, who regained the Women’s T20 World Cup trophy with an impressive display in both bowling and batting.

England Post 150-4 After Late Recovery

After being asked to bat, England finished on 150-4 from their 20 overs.

Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt led the innings with a composed 58 runs, while Freya Kemp added an unbeaten 44 from 28 deliveries. The pair shared an 80-run partnership to help England recover after losing early wickets.

Australia’s bowlers kept the pressure on throughout the innings, limiting England’s scoring opportunities during the powerplay.

Lucy Hamilton claimed an early breakthrough by dismissing Amy Jones, while Annabel Sutherland removed leading run-scorer Danni Wyatt-Hodge with the help of an excellent catch from wicketkeeper Beth Mooney.

Sophie Molineux dismissed Alice Capsey, and Kim Garth delivered an economical spell that further restricted England’s progress.

Mooney and Litchfield Lead Australia’s Chase

Australia made an aggressive start to the chase despite losing an early wicket.

Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield then combined for a match-winning partnership, scoring freely against the England bowling attack and taking Australia close to victory.

Litchfield played an attacking innings of 48 runs from 35 balls, including two sixes, before being dismissed.

Mooney continued her excellent form with 64 runs from 49 deliveries, anchoring the chase and ensuring Australia remained comfortably ahead of the required run rate.

Australia Complete Comfortable Victory

After the dismissals of Mooney and Litchfield, experienced batter Ellyse Perry guided Australia toward the finish.

The winning runs came in unusual fashion as England conceded four wides, allowing Australia to seal the title with seven wickets in hand.

Seventh World Cup Triumph

The victory gives Australia a record seventh ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title, reinforcing the team’s long-standing success in international women’s cricket.

Their balanced performance with both bat and ball throughout the final highlighted why they remain one of the strongest teams in the format.

For England, reaching the final was a notable achievement, but they were unable to build enough pressure after posting a competitive yet ultimately chaseable total.

Australia’s latest triumph adds another major trophy to an already remarkable record and continues the team’s impressive legacy on the world stage.

Cricket West Indies Calls Emergency Meeting to Revive Test Cricket Legacy Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced an emergency strategic intervention following a challenging Test series against Australia, aimed at revitalizing the team’s long-format performance. In response to the recent series defeat, CWI President Kishore Shallow has convened a special meeting of the Cricket Strategy and Officiating Committee. To provide expert insight and guidance, he has invited three of the region’s most celebrated cricket legends—Sir Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards, and Brian Lara—to join the discussions. These icons will collaborate with existing committee members Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Desmond Haynes, and Ian Bradshaw. “To strengthen the discussions, I have extended invitations to three of our greatest batsmen ever: Sir Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards, and Brian Lara,” Shallow said in a recent statement. Together, the trio brings decades of experience and nearly 28,000 Test runs. Their involvement is intended to offer both inspiration and practical solutions to help guide the next chapter of West Indies cricket. “This engagement is not ceremonial. These are men who helped define our golden eras,” Shallow explained. “Their perspectives will be invaluable as we shape the next phase of our cricket development. We intend for this gathering to result in tangible, actionable recommendations.” While the recent series outcome has prompted reflection within the cricketing community, CWI emphasized the importance of maintaining a forward-looking approach. The board remains committed to long-term planning and rebuilding a strong, competitive Test team. West Indies cricket has seen significant success in the T20 format, but the rise of shorter formats has presented challenges for the traditional Test arena. CWI hopes that renewed focus and expert input will help bridge this gap and encourage greater interest and preparation for red-ball cricket. The strategic meeting is expected to produce a roadmap focused on resilience, performance development, and fostering a renewed culture of excellence. With leadership from some of the game’s greatest Caribbean players, West Indies cricket aims to build a future rooted in its proud and storied legacy
