Belgium booked its place in the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals with an impressive 4-1 victory over the United States on Monday, capitalizing on a series of defensive mistakes that ended the hosts’ hopes of a deep tournament run.

Charles De Ketelaere starred for Belgium, scoring twice and providing an assist in a standout performance. The Red Devils took control by punishing defensive errors from the American side throughout the match.

The United States also faced setbacks as captain Christian Pulisic appeared to suffer an ankle injury, while goalkeeper Matt Freese made a costly mistake that allowed Belgium to extend its lead. Defender Chris Richards also endured a difficult evening as Belgium continued to apply pressure.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino showed visible frustration on the sidelines as the match slipped away from his team.

“It stinks,” U.S. captain Tyler Adams said after the match. “This was a chance to do something special and advance further in the tournament, but we came up short.”

The United States received a boost before kickoff when striker Folarin Balogun returned after FIFA overturned his one-match suspension. However, the hosts struggled defensively, conceding two first-half goals before another error early in the second half increased Belgium’s advantage.

Substitute Romelu Lukaku completed the scoring in stoppage time, sealing a convincing victory for Belgium and sending the European side into the quarterfinals.

The defeat marks one of the United States’ heaviest World Cup losses in recent history and brings an end to their campaign on home soil. Belgium will now look ahead to the quarterfinals as they continue their pursuit of World Cup glory.
