CCD Punjab Admits Error in Incident Leading to Death of 10-Year-Old Girl in Lahore
Punjab’s Crime Control Department (CCD) has acknowledged a serious operational error during a robbery response in Lahore that resulted in the death of a 10-year-old Pakistani-Australian girl.
According to an official statement, the incident took place on June 10 when CCD personnel responded to reports of an armed robbery involving a family vehicle.
Authorities said that during the operation, the suspects allegedly opened fire, prompting an exchange of gunfire between law enforcement and the armed individuals.
Incident Details Under Investigation
CCD stated that during the chaotic situation, an officer mistakenly believed the suspects were attempting to flee in the family’s vehicle. As a result, he fired at the car, which led to the fatal injury of the child and injuries to her father and brother.
The department said the officer’s actions were in violation of standard operating procedures and established rules regarding the use of force.
Officer Suspended and Arrested
Officials confirmed that the officer involved was immediately suspended on the same day of the incident, taken into custody, and later formally arrested. He has since been presented before a court and placed in judicial custody.
Authorities also confirmed that forensic evidence, including the officer’s weapon and spent bullet casings, has been collected for further investigation.
Legal Proceedings and Inquiry
An FIR has been registered based on the complaint of the victim’s family. Investigators are continuing to review all available evidence, including statements and forensic reports, to determine the sequence of events.
CCD has stated that it is maintaining contact with the family of the deceased and is providing updates as the investigation progresses.
Ongoing Review of Procedures
Officials added that the incident is being treated as a serious breach of operational protocol, and internal reviews are underway to assess decision-making during the response.
Further legal and departmental action will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
