England and Portugal End World Cup Preparations with Friendly Victories

England completed their final preparations for the FIFA World Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory over Costa Rica in Orlando on Wednesday.

The match was delayed by an hour due to severe weather conditions, including heavy rain and lightning, but England delivered a strong performance once play got underway.

Anthony Gordon played a key role in the win, contributing a goal and an assist. He set up Declan Rice for the opening goal in the ninth minute before later converting a penalty to double England’s advantage. Ollie Watkins added a third goal to seal the victory.

England manager Thomas Tuchel fielded a strong lineup ahead of the team’s World Cup opener against Croatia on June 17. The result provides a positive boost as England prepares for its Group L campaign, which also includes matches against Ghana and Panama.

Portugal Defeat Nigeria in Final Warm-Up Match

Portugal also ended its World Cup preparations with a victory, defeating Nigeria 2-1 in Leiria.

Pedro Neto opened the scoring for Portugal in the first half before Nigeria equalized through Akor Adams. Francisco Conceicao restored Portugal’s lead in the second half to secure the win.

Veteran forward Cristiano Ronaldo featured in the match as he prepares for what is expected to be his sixth FIFA World Cup appearance. Portugal manager Roberto Martinez used the fixture to fine-tune his squad ahead of the tournament.

Portugal will begin its World Cup campaign on June 17 against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Houston. The team will also face Uzbekistan and Colombia in Group K.

Both England and Portugal head into the tournament with winning momentum as they look to make strong starts in their respective World Cup campaigns.
