Google Rolls Out Gemini Go for Entry-Level Android Devices

Google has begun rolling out Gemini Go, a lightweight version of its AI assistant designed specifically for Android Go devices with at least 2GB of RAM.

The new assistant is intended to replace Google Assistant Go on budget-friendly smartphones, bringing AI-powered features to users with lower-end hardware.

According to details shared by the company, Gemini Go operates through the Google Search app on supported devices and provides users with access to core AI assistant functions without requiring high-performance specifications.

Users can activate the assistant by long-pressing the home button or power key, similar to the standard Gemini experience on more advanced Android devices.

The assistant supports a range of everyday tasks, including making phone calls, sending messages, setting alarms, managing calendar events, and playing music through voice or text commands.

It can also respond to general queries such as travel time estimates, local information, and nearby service searches, making it useful for daily smartphone use.

In addition, Gemini Go allows users to upload files, images, and documents within conversations to provide more context for responses.

Google said the new version has been optimized to run efficiently on devices with limited processing power, memory, and storage, expanding access to AI tools for users on entry-level smartphones.

The rollout is part of Google’s broader transition from Google Assistant to Gemini across its ecosystem, a shift that is expected to continue throughout 2026.

Gemini Go is being released gradually, and availability may vary depending on device model and region. Users with eligible Android Go devices are expected to receive the update through the Google Search app.

The launch aims to make modern AI features more widely accessible, particularly for users who rely on affordable smartphones.
