Government Revises Business Operating Hours for Summer Season
The federal government has approved revised operating hours for markets, shops, and restaurants as part of its ongoing administrative and energy management measures during the summer season.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Committee for Monitoring and Implementation of Austerity Measures, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the revised schedule, shops, markets, shopping malls, and other retail businesses will now be permitted to remain open until 9:00 PM. Restaurants, cafés, and eateries may operate until 11:00 PM, while takeaway and delivery services will continue without time restrictions.
Officials stated that the adjustment was made in view of longer daylight hours and higher summer temperatures, allowing businesses and consumers greater flexibility during evening hours.
Marriage halls and event venues will continue to follow the existing closing time of 10:00 PM, with no changes announced for that sector.
The government also confirmed that essential services will remain exempt from the operating hour restrictions. These include pharmacies, hospitals, fuel stations, and information technology and telecommunications services.
The committee directed provincial administrations to coordinate with relevant authorities to ensure implementation of the revised schedule.
The meeting was attended by federal ministers, senior government officials, and representatives from provincial governments, who reviewed the status of existing measures and discussed additional administrative matters related to business operations and public convenience.
