NCERT Warns Public About Suspected Fake Cybersecurity Campaign Offering Free Laptops and Internships

Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT) is investigating a suspected online campaign operating under the name “Cyber Secure Pakistan” after promotional posts appeared on LinkedIn advertising cybersecurity training and offering benefits such as free laptops, international certifications, and global internship opportunities.

According to officials familiar with the matter, the campaign is not an official government initiative and is currently under investigation.

Campaign Claims Raise Concerns

The promotional posts direct users to apply through a website while claiming that the program was launched at an event in Islamabad.

The advertisements also promote a “Cyber Hero Card”, which allegedly provides benefits including free laptops, international certifications, and internship opportunities.

Authorities have expressed concern that the campaign may mislead students and job seekers into believing it is officially endorsed.

Registration Fee Under Review

Officials said the organizers are reportedly asking applicants to pay a Rs. 5,000 registration fee to obtain the so-called Cyber Hero Card.

Investigators are examining whether the payment request is part of a fraudulent scheme.

Public Advised to Verify Online Offers

The promotional material reportedly includes photographs of public officials and graphics resembling those used by recognized organizations, which may create the impression of official support.

NCERT has advised the public to exercise caution before sharing personal information or making payments for online training programs or employment-related offers.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to verify the authenticity of any initiative through official government websites or relevant authorities before registering or paying any fees.

The National Cyber Emergency Response Team is continuing its investigation and is expected to determine whether regulatory or legal action is required if the campaign is found to be fraudulent.
