Pakistan Seeks Additional LNG Cargo Amid Regional Shipping Uncertainty
Pakistan has initiated the procurement of an additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo to help strengthen energy supplies amid ongoing uncertainty affecting regional shipping routes.
According to reports, state-owned Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) has invited bids for an LNG cargo scheduled for delivery between June 30 and July 4 under an emergency tender process.
Pakistan relies on imported LNG to help meet its domestic energy requirements, with a significant portion of supplies sourced from Qatar. As a result, any disruption to key maritime trade routes in the Gulf region can affect the country’s energy supply chain.
Earlier this year, delays in LNG shipments contributed to gas supply challenges and increased pressure on the energy sector. However, the situation improved in May when Pakistan received its first LNG cargo in nearly two months.
Unlike the country’s regular LNG imports from Qatar, that shipment arrived from the United States, departing from Sabine Pass before reaching Port Qasim.
The latest procurement effort is intended to help maintain stable gas supplies and support the country’s energy needs while authorities continue to monitor developments affecting international shipping and global energy markets.
