PCB Plans Cricket Stadium in Saudi Arabia for Possible PSL Matches
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering the construction of a cricket stadium in Saudi Arabia that could potentially host Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in the future, according to recent reports.
Early-stage planning for overseas expansion
Sources suggest that the PCB has received initial approval from its governing body to explore the project. However, the plan is still in its early stages, and further discussions and formal agreements will be required before any construction begins.
The proposed stadium is expected to be built in Jeddah and may be developed in collaboration with the Saudi Arabia Cricket Federation (SACF).
Strengthening cricket ties with Saudi Arabia
The move is seen as part of PCB’s broader strategy to expand cricket’s reach beyond Pakistan. Interest in the sport has been growing in Saudi Arabia in recent years, particularly after the establishment of the SACF in 2020.
If the project moves forward, it could open the door for PSL matches to be played in the Middle East once again, similar to previous seasons when the UAE hosted league fixtures successfully.
Discussions already underway
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi previously visited Saudi Arabia in December 2024, where he met Saudi officials, including Prince Saud bin Mishal Al-Saud. During the visit, both sides discussed opportunities for developing cricket infrastructure and promoting the sport in the Kingdom.
Still at proposal stage
Officials emphasize that the plan is still under review and no final decision has been made. Key approvals, feasibility studies, and partnership details are still pending before the project can move forward.
