PDMA Issues Flood Alert for Upper KP Districts Amid Heavy Rain Forecast

July 18, 2026

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) alert for several upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as heavy rainfall is forecast between July 19 and July 25.

According to the authority, persistent rainfall across northern parts of the province may increase the risk of flash floods, landslides, and glacier-related hazards in mountainous areas.

Districts Included in the Alert

The flood alert has been issued for the following districts:

  • Upper Chitral
  • Lower Chitral
  • Upper Dir
  • Swat
  • Bahrain
  • Upper Kohistan
  • Lower Kohistan
  • Mansehra

Risk of Flash Floods and Landslides

PDMA said continued rainfall could accelerate glacier melting, increasing the possibility of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs). Such events can trigger sudden flooding in downstream areas and pose risks to nearby communities.

The authority has advised residents, particularly those living near rivers, streams, and mountainous regions, to remain alert and follow instructions issued by local authorities.

Emergency Measures

District administrations in the affected areas have been directed to remain on high alert and activate emergency response plans during the forecast period.

Officials have also been instructed to establish evacuation centers in vulnerable locations to ensure public safety if needed.

In case of an emergency, residents can contact the PDMA helpline at 1700 for assistance and information.
