PIA Launches Direct Lahore–Baku Flights Starting April 20, Aims to Boost Tourism and Trade

LAHORE – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially announced the launch of direct flights from Lahore to Baku, Azerbaijan, beginning April 20, 2025. The new route is part of the national carrier’s ongoing initiative to enhance global connectivity and promote international tourism.

According to PIA officials, the airline will operate two weekly flights, scheduled for Sundays and Wednesdays, offering passengers convenient travel options between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

Travel Industry Engagement

To celebrate the launch, PIA plans to host special events in various cities across Pakistan. These launch ceremonies aim to engage travel agents, tour operators, and tourism industry stakeholders. At these events, PIA will also unveil details about other upcoming international routes, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to growth.

Officials underscored the vital role of travel agents in making the Lahore–Baku route a commercial success. “We are working closely with our partners to ensure this new connection is not only profitable but also strengthens bilateral tourism and trade relations between the two nations,” the airline’s spokesperson stated.

Renewed Optimism for PIA

The announcement comes during a period of renewed optimism for the national airline. Just last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended PIA’s remarkable progress, highlighting a return to profitability for the first time in two decades. He praised the efforts of Aviation Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and his team for their leadership in turning the organization around.

According to PIA’s recently released financial report, the airline recorded an operational profit of Rs3.9 billion and a net profit of Rs2.26 billion for the year 2024—marking its first annual profit in over 20 years. The positive financial results have been approved by the airline’s Board of Directors.

A New Era for National Aviation

The new Lahore–Baku route is expected to open doors for enhanced cultural exchange, business opportunities, and easier access for tourists and diaspora communities. With its rich history, modern attractions, and increasing popularity among Pakistani travelers, Baku is quickly becoming a favored destination in the region.

Travelers can now book tickets through PIA’s official website, mobile app, and authorized travel agents.
