Monsoon Brings Much-Needed Relief: Punjab to See 25% More Rainfall, Karachi Showers Expected June 27
LAHORE / KARACHI – As monsoon season sets in, Punjab is expected to receive 25% more rainfall than usual this year, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). Meanwhile, Karachi is forecast to receive light to moderate rain on Friday, June 27, which could help ease the ongoing wave of extreme heat and humidity.
Punjab Braces for Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms
In a press briefing on Wednesday, PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia confirmed that the first spell of monsoon rains has begun in Punjab and will continue until July 1. The rains are accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, particularly in northern and central districts.
Districts including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Mianwali are all expected to receive significant rainfall. In southern Punjab, areas such as Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Dera Ghazi Khan are likely to experience showers between June 26–28.
Emergency Measures in Place Across Punjab
Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed has instructed all commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain on high alert, ensuring readiness across departments including Rescue 1122, WASA, and Local Government.
A special warning has been issued for landslide-prone areas like Murree and Galiyat, urging tourists to check weather conditions before planning their trips. Citizens are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and call the PDMA helpline at 1129 in case of emergencies.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released a three-day forecast for Karachi, predicting scattered showers and possible thunderstorms starting Friday evening (June 27).
