Rawalpindi Approves 18 Road Development Projects Worth Rs6.5 Billion
RAWALPINDI: Authorities in Rawalpindi have approved 18 development projects worth more than Rs6.5 billion, with a major focus on road construction, rehabilitation, improvement and widening across the district.
The projects were discussed during a development review meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and chaired by Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir. Officials also reviewed water supply, sewerage and other schemes being carried out under the Punjab Development Programme.
18 Projects Receive Approval
Officials informed the meeting that 21 development schemes have been identified with a combined estimated cost of more than Rs6.5229 billion. Of these, 18 schemes have already received approval.
The approved projects include nine schemes under the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) with an estimated cost of Rs1.6 billion and nine District Council schemes worth around Rs4.8 billion.
The Punjab Highway Department will be responsible for executing the road-related works, while the RMC and District Council will arrange the required funding for their respective projects.
Roads Across Rawalpindi to Be Upgraded
The development programme covers several important roads in Rawalpindi, including Khayaban-i-Sir Syed, Bokra Road, Fifth Road, Rawal Road, Chandni Chowk to Commercial Market, Railway Workshop Road and Gordon College Road.
Road improvement projects will also be carried out in Taxila, Gujar Khan, Kallar Syedan and Kahuta, covering multiple areas of the district.
Deputy Commissioner Orders Regular Monitoring
Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir directed the relevant departments to closely monitor the development schemes and ensure that construction work is completed within the prescribed timelines.
He also instructed officials to maintain the required quality standards and take action against contractors who fail to meet project specifications or deadlines.
The deputy commissioner said he would personally visit ongoing projects to review their progress and ensure that the approved development work is carried out properly.
