Robinson Leads England’s Push for Victory as Rain Disrupts Lord’s Test
England strengthened their position in the first Test against New Zealand at Lord’s on Saturday, with Ollie Robinson claiming two important wickets before rain and bad light severely limited play.
Only a short period of action was possible on the third day of the match, but England made good use of the available overs as New Zealand slipped to 55-5 in their second innings.
Chasing a target of 254 runs, the visitors still require 199 more runs with five wickets remaining heading into the fourth day.
Robinson Strikes Early
Robinson continued his impressive performance in the match by removing two key batters in quick succession.
Rachin Ravindra was dismissed for 8 after a well-directed delivery found its way through the defense and hit the stumps. Shortly afterward, Daryl Mitchell departed without scoring, giving England further control of the contest.
The fast bowler has enjoyed a productive return to the Test side after taking five wickets in New Zealand’s first innings.
Rain Restricts Play
Persistent rain and poor light allowed fewer than 10 overs to be bowled throughout the day at Lord’s. Conditions prevented play for long periods before the match officials eventually called off play for the remainder of the day.
Despite the interruptions, England remained firmly on top thanks to their disciplined bowling effort.
England Hold the Advantage
New Zealand resumed on 36-3 after losing early wickets on the second evening. England pacers Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue had already put pressure on the visitors by dismissing several top-order batters.
At stumps, opener Devon Conway remained unbeaten on 19, while wicketkeeper Tom Blundell was not out on 2. Their partnership will be crucial if New Zealand are to challenge the target on the final two days.
England’s strong position was also built on valuable contributions with the bat. Debutant Emilio Gay top-scored with 57 in the second innings, helping England reach 226 and set a challenging target.
