Shamoon Abbasi Says Pakistan’s Entertainment Industry Must Meet Global Standards for Streaming Platforms

Pakistani filmmaker and actor Shamoon Abbasi has shared his views on why he believes Pakistan’s entertainment industry needs further development before it can consistently succeed on major international streaming platforms such as Netflix.

In a video shared on social media, Abbasi discussed the industry’s current challenges, highlighting the importance of technical quality, storytelling, and international production standards.

Focus on Content Quality and Technical Standards

Abbasi said that while Pakistani dramas enjoy strong popularity among local audiences, the industry still has room to improve in areas such as production quality, sound design, color grading, and post-production workflows.

According to him, global streaming platforms have strict technical requirements that productions must meet before they can be distributed internationally.

He also shared that during one of his previous film projects, he became familiar with some of these international production standards, which he believes require greater attention within Pakistan’s entertainment sector.

Importance of Globally Relevant Stories

In addition to technical improvements, Abbasi emphasized the need for stories that can connect with audiences beyond Pakistan.

He suggested that while family dramas remain successful locally, expanding into a wider variety of genres and themes could help Pakistani productions reach more international viewers.

He also encouraged greater investment in original storytelling and literary content, saying strong narratives are an essential part of building global appeal.

Discussion on Streaming Platforms

Abbasi’s comments came after recent public discussions about Pakistani content and international streaming services.

He also responded to remarks suggesting that local broadcasters should focus on building domestic streaming platforms. According to Abbasi, developing a successful streaming service would require collaboration across the industry as well as a large library of high-quality content.

He added that partnerships with international streaming companies could also provide opportunities for local production teams to gain experience with global filmmaking standards and workflows.

Looking Ahead

Abbasi welcomed recent reports that Pakistan is exploring ways to expand the international reach of its entertainment industry.

He expressed hope that future initiatives would focus not only on increasing global distribution but also on improving production quality, storytelling, and technical expertise to help Pakistani content compete on the international stage.
