Si Woo Kim came within touching distance of making PGA Tour history before a late stumble saw him settle for an 11-under 60 at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in McKinney, Texas.
The South Korean star needed a par on the final hole to become only the 16th player in PGA Tour history to break 60, but a bogey on the 18th ended that historic possibility.
Brilliant round nearly makes history
Kim produced a sensational round at TPC Craig Ranch, recording 12 birdies and putting himself firmly in contention for a record-breaking score.
A key highlight came on the 17th hole, where he sank a long curling birdie putt to move within reach of sub-60 territory.
Final-hole disappointment
On the 18th, Kim found the fairway but overhit his approach shot. His recovery chip left him with a difficult putt, and he was unable to save par, finishing with his only bogey of the day.
Despite the finish, Kim still holds a strong position in the tournament with a five-shot lead after two rounds.
Course playing conditions
TPC Craig Ranch has played relatively scoring-friendly due to soft conditions following rain, along with calm winds. Players were also allowed to lift, clean, and place their golf balls in the fairway.
Course changes, including a redesign of the 18th hole into a par-4, have also impacted scoring difficulty.
Outlook
Although the missed milestone will sting, Kim’s performance remains one of the standout rounds of the tournament, putting him in strong contention heading into the weekend.
