Six Reported Dead in Gaza Following Fresh Israeli Strikes, Local Officials Say
At least six people were reported killed in separate incidents across Gaza on Thursday, according to local civil defence authorities and health officials, despite an existing ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Officials said the casualties resulted from a series of drone strikes and gunfire in different parts of the territory. Medical facilities in Gaza confirmed receiving the bodies of six people following the incidents.
Casualties Reported in Multiple Locations
According to Gaza’s civil defence agency, two people were killed and several others were injured after a drone strike in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. Four additional fatalities were reported in separate incidents elsewhere in the enclave.
A local security source also claimed that one strike targeted a vehicle linked to Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem. The source said Qassem was not inside the vehicle at the time, while his bodyguard was reportedly killed. These claims have not been independently verified.
Ceasefire Remains in Place Amid Ongoing Violence
Although a ceasefire has been in effect since October last year, sporadic violence has continued in Gaza, and negotiations aimed at reaching a long-term agreement have yet to produce a final settlement.
According to Gaza’s health authorities, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began. The Israeli military has also reported casualties among its personnel during the same period.
Independent Verification Remains Limited
Independent verification of casualty figures and battlefield developments remains difficult because of restrictions on media access and limited reporting opportunities within Gaza.
The situation continues to evolve as diplomatic efforts seek to reduce tensions and support a lasting resolution to the conflict.
