Swat Hospital Successfully Performs Region’s First Kidney Transplant
SWAT: A hospital in Saidu Sharif, Swat, has successfully performed the region’s first kidney transplant, marking a significant development in healthcare services for northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to officials, the procedure was carried out at Luqman International Hospital after receiving approval from the Khyber Medical Transplantation Regulatory Authority.
Successful Three-Hour Procedure
The kidney transplant was led by transplant surgeon Dr. Ubaidur Rehman and took approximately three hours to complete.
The recipient, a resident of Buner district, had been undergoing regular dialysis after experiencing kidney failure. A close family member donated a kidney as part of the transplant procedure.
Hospital officials confirmed that both the donor and the recipient are in stable condition following the surgery.
Improved Access to Specialized Care
Medical experts say the availability of kidney transplant services in Swat is an important step toward improving access to advanced healthcare for patients in Malakand Division and nearby districts.
Previously, many patients requiring kidney transplants had to travel to major cities such as Peshawar, Lahore, or Karachi to receive specialized treatment.
