Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 3,535, Thousands Still Without Homes
The death toll from the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela has climbed to 3,535, while thousands of people remain displaced more than a week after the disaster.
According to officials, the twin earthquakes, which struck on June 24, left 16,740 people injured and 17,854 residents without homes. The powerful tremors caused widespread destruction across Caracas and the neighboring coastal region of La Guaira, one of the hardest-hit areas.
Authorities said nearly 12,800 displaced people are currently staying in around 80 temporary shelters established across Caracas and La Guaira as relief efforts continue.
Health experts have also raised concerns about conditions inside emergency shelters. Officials from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) warned that overcrowding, limited access to clean water, and sanitation challenges could increase the risk of disease outbreaks if conditions do not improve.
Emergency response teams continue to provide humanitarian assistance, while authorities work to restore essential services and support families affected by the disaster. Recovery operations remain ongoing as thousands of residents await permanent housing and further aid.
The earthquakes are among the deadliest natural disasters to hit Venezuela in recent years, highlighting the need for continued relief and reconstruction efforts.
