Chelsea Defender Levi Colwill Faces Long Spell on Sidelines After ACL Surgery

LONDON: Chelsea FC has confirmed that defender Levi Colwill will miss a significant part of the upcoming season after undergoing successful surgery for a torn ACL on Thursday.

The 22-year-old center-back suffered the knee injury during pre-season training earlier this week, dealing a major blow to the club ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

“Levi will now begin his recovery and be supported by the club’s medical department at Cobham during his rehabilitation phase,” Chelsea said in an official statement.

Key Player in Chelsea’s Recent Success

Colwill was a crucial figure in manager Enzo Maresca’s starting XI last season, making 35 Premier League starts as Chelsea secured Champions League qualification.

The England international also played a pivotal role in the club’s Club World Cup victory last month, notably helping to neutralize Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembélé in the final. He also contributed to Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League title earlier in the year.

Road to Recovery

While the club has not specified a timeline for his return, ACL injuries typically require several months of recovery, suggesting Colwill could be out for the majority of the 2025-26 season.

Chelsea fans and staff will be hoping for a smooth recovery as the young defender begins his rehabilitation journey at Cobham Training Ground.
