KP Introduces “Pink Button” Alert System for Women’s Safety

KP Police Launch “Pink Button” Emergency Alert System to Enhance Women’s Safety

Peshawar, August 30, 2025

In a major step to boost women’s security, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has introduced a new emergency alert system called the “Pink Button.”

The initiative will begin in Peshawar, with 68 Pink Buttons installed at women-focused markets, shopping areas, and near educational institutions. The system allows women and other citizens to instantly contact police for assistance in emergencies.

Each Pink Button is linked directly to the Police Control Room, transmitting live video and audio of the situation, ensuring a rapid response from law enforcement teams. Officials say the system is designed to curb harassment and provide immediate support when needed.

This initiative follows similar efforts in Punjab, where the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has installed panic button services across Lahore. In the first phase, 39 women’s colleges and universities received the devices, with plans to expand to over 450 educational institutions across the province.

A PSCA spokesperson noted that pressing a panic button immediately alerts the central control room and Virtual Women Police Station, dispatching police to the location. The system is especially helpful in situations where students or women cannot access their phones.

Currently, panic buttons are active at 122 locations in Lahore and 101 in other cities. Expanding the program to educational campuses marks a significant move toward safer learning environments and stronger women’s security infrastructure in Punjab and KP.
