Brazil Defeats Argentina to Win Fifth FIBA AmeriCup Title
MANAGUA (Nicaragua), September 1, 2025 – Brazil reclaimed continental glory by defeating Argentina 55-47 in a defensive showdown to lift their fifth FIBA AmeriCup crown at the Alexis Argüello Sports Complex. It was Brazil’s first title since 2009 and their 12th overall podium finish.
A Game Won on Defense
Argentina opened strong, but Brazil relied on tough defense and timely baskets to turn the game around. The decisive moment came late in the fourth quarter when captain Vitor Benite hit a three-pointer to extend the lead to 10 points with less than two minutes left, shutting down Argentina’s comeback hopes.
Earlier, Brazil’s bench players—Alexey Borges, Reynan Santos, and Benite—powered a 10-2 run that stretched the lead to double digits. That cushion proved vital as Argentina attempted a late rally.
